Antique Red Wedding Cabinet from Zhejiang, China

About the Item

An antique red wedding cabinet from Zhejiang province, China. This piece has beautiful original red colour and patina, and its original brass hardware. Typically, such cabinets have their framework made of Elm, and the insides of the cabinet, back and shelves are made of Fir or Pine. There is one removable shelf inside the cabinet, and a secret compartment which can be assessed by lifting the internal bottom plank. There are 3 brass knobs holding the pin in the middle of the round door plate, the middle knob is secured to the shelf inside just above the drawers, the function of this knob is to make the locking of the doors more secure. The round door plate is plain but there are some very light engravings on the bottom handle plates. The front of the cabinet is in red lacquer, while the two sides of the cabinet are reddish brown colour.

    Repaired: Repairs to the joints were done in China. The colour is original, a clear matte lacquer was applied overall. Refinished. Wear consistent with age and use.
