Large Patinated Bronze Japanese Koro Incense Burner

About the Item

Large patinated bronze Japanese koro incense burner Japanese, late 19th Century Dimensions: Height 221cm, width 97cm, depth 57cm This monumental koro is modelled from patinated bronze as an ovoid bowl surmounted with a tiered and pierced lid set above a stem comprised of a writhing dragon and crashing waves, all supported on an integral shaped base. This patinated bronze koro was crafted during a time of great industrial competition between the East and West. In the Meiji period, Japan applied traditional technology to works of art for export to Western countries.
