Japan, a rare paper scroll hand painted by renown Rengetsu Otagaki (1791-1875). She was a very famous nun in old Japan and being familiar with poetry, her Waka poems on paper, and especially her hard to find scrolls are sought after through out the world. Her unique style of calligraphy work is loved internationally. Its a pleasure to have uncovered one of her great scroll treasures with its attractive hand painting on paper scroll of a calligraphy Heart -" Kokoro Heart", and which she signed. Rare and wonderful subject matter. Wood rollers. Dimensions: Scroll 13.5 inches wide and 69 inches length. Artist-signed. Hard to find style and subject matter in a convenient size, this handsome painting is skillfully and tastefully rendered ink on paper. Waka The word waka means "Japanese poem," and it is a form so basic to Japanese literature that Japanese still study and write it today.
