Japanese Showa Edo Tale of the Genji Landscape Painting
About the Item
A beautiful, exquisitely painted gem, this small Japanese painting features a scene from the famous literary story Tale of the Genji. The painting is done with intricate detail (in the costumes and flowing water) and vivid colors as well as splashes of gold dust to highlight the landscape.
We are listing the piece as Showa Period (1912-1989) but it could be older, perhaps Edo Period, as the painting resembles Tosa School works of the second half of the 17th century.
Would be a great addition to any Japanese or Asian art collection or make for an eye-catching stand-alone accent artwork in about any setting.
