Collection of Four Japanese Wood Print Blocks Meiji Period
About the Item
A collection of four carved wood print blocks from Japan circa late 19th century (Meiji Period). Constructed and hand-chiseled from hardwood, the printing blocks were finely carved on both sides in Chinese (Kanji) except one with Japanese Cursive Sogana. The characters on the front of the blocks were later colored with gilt and occasionally red and white for decorative purpose. The characters on the back were left black. There are wires on the back for hanging.
The sizes are 20"x 11"x 1"; 33" x 9" 1; 13" x 8.5" x1"; 19" x 10" x 1".
