About the Item
An incredibly rare 18th Century monumental palace size Ottoman Islamic astrolabe on an easel stand, Turkey, circa 1720.
This rare palace size Astrolabe on stand is in two sections, the top having a carved crest and a circular device inset with blue ceramic cabochons. The engraved mater having celestial and astrological symbols, to the center is the rete and rule, with four more retes to each corner.
The easel form stand is finely and deeply carved with a floral design and terminates to zoomorphic lion's paw feet.
Condition is very good indeed. Provenance; Property of a Kuwaiti Gentleman, from an important collection of Islamic art.
