Japanese Old Wood Carving Bear 1950s-1970s / Sculpture Wabisabi

About the Item

This is a large carved wooden bear made in Japan. It is estimated to have been made between 1950s and 1970s. It is an abstract shape. It is a very rare type of wood carving. The grayish coloring gives it a unique character. This item evokes the spirit of wabi-sabi, the Japanese philosophy of finding beauty in imperfection and impermanence. It is a modest and humble beauty, the beauty of the unconventional, the opposite of vulgarity. This is a unique and very rare item. Weight 2.5 kg. Since ancient times, people have created and passed down necessary tools from familiar materials to survive in the severe struggle against nature, and have nurtured a lifestyle culture. By using these objects over a long period of time, they accumulate a flavor and reflect a way of life. The more severe the natural environment and the weaker we are, the stronger their power becomes. In today's world, where cheap and disposable products are encouraged, the act of repeatedly re-creating the things around us by modifying them opens up a new world. With this philosophy in mind, we collect beautiful, powerful, and unique carefully selected antiquities from Japan.
