About the Item
Super Rare Goud Work,
K. LAXMA GOUD BATIK
THREE GODDESSES
EPIC & RARE EARLY "COMMERCIAL MID CENTURY" STYLE!
CIRCA 1967 ! LARGE! Approx . 33" By 20"
Here is a superb batik from the legendary Indian artist K. Laxma Goud! In 1963 K. Laxma Goud graduated from the Government College of Art & Architecture in Hyderabad, India. He continued his studies with mural painting and printmaking at M.S. University in Baroda, from 1963 to 1965. This work from around 1967 is the personification of his mural studies and the mid century style that was being taught! Completed several years after his studies in Baroda,
it is one of the earliest and most magnificent Laxma Goud works on record to be offered. This piece foreshadows many of his later ribald works! Here, three goddesses are depicted on a wonderful hanging batik! The colors and shapes in this work are absolutely amazing and the work is simply delightful to gaze upon! This style is pure mid century modern and was used heavily in expressionist illustration art!
Goud's solo art shows include a show of bronzes and terracotta at the Guild Art Gallery in Mumbai (2006); Gallery Arts India in New York (2003); Grey Art Gallery in New York (2001-02). He also participated in the São Paulo Biennale in 1977.
Now, over half a century after its creation, this batik is a treasure for collectors and the holy grail for collectors of Laxma Goud! Tapestry is extremely well preserved & in fine vintage condition! This would look sublime hanging in your NY Penthouse, or CA Atomic Ranch!
A SIMPLY MARVELOUS GOUD FOR YOUR SOUTH ASIAN ART COLLECTION .

(APPROX. 17" TALL By 15" WIDE ) Here is the famous MOSS fiberglass lamp with a cone and reflector design. It is one of the most coveted MOSS lamps for its comparative restraint and timeless design! This reflector lamp is the epitome of modern illumination thought circa 1945-1955! Designers were experimenting with ways to create *indirect lighting* because studies illustrated this was better for the eyes. The MOMA Lighting Design competition of 1951 would almost exclusively showcase designs that were based on reflection technology. This beautiful lamp features a sweeping brushed brass neck and articulating fiberglass shade reflector. The black enameled cone is complemented by a matching black decorative trim on the base. It is in very fine vintage condition. It has light age-appropriate wear. It presents splendidly, This lamp creates a warm cozy space in any interior. Moss lamps were more about mood than function. Accordingly this is more of an accent lamp. Much like the Bobrick control lamps...Category
