About the Item

They were created to definit the dining aera of the Aquarius liner, built in 1972 on the Piraeus shipyard.
The Aquarius ship was built for Hellenic Mediterranean Lines (HML) in 1972. It was the first HML cruise ship, and also the first cruise ship built in Greece. Aquarius was ordered and laid down at United Shipping Yard in Perama. It was launched on September 15th 1971 and commissioned in June. 1972. The vessel was 4591 gross tons, 103,71 metres long and could carry 312 passengers.
Born in 1929, Erminio Lozzi is a noted painter, tapestry maker, interior designer and animator (for animated movies).
He might be best known in the art world for creating Dino The Dinosaur for the Flintstones but Lozzi was a prolific interior designer and helmed the refit of almost every Epirotiki Lines' cruise ship, from ARGONAUT to ORPHEUS, JASON, NEPTUNE and, of course, the WORLD RENAISSANCE. Lozzi's style was warm, employing vivid oranges and yellows, burnt umber, avocado green and turquoise. His ships had metallic art and gorgeous original tapestries, many depicting scenes from Greek mythology. He transformed the WORLD RENAISSANCE from a cool, chic, but well-worn French lady into a contemporary Greek maiden that would become a staple in Aegean cruising for over two decades.

- Antique French Painted and Giltwood Overdoor, circa 1850Located in Dallas, TXThe reign of Napoleon III, often referred to as “The Second Empire”, featured an amalgamation of styles from previous regimes, ranging from the light and airy Rococo of Louis XV to the more stoic Neoclassical trophies of Louis XVI. Our painted giltwood overdoor from circa 1850 is in the vein of a Regence or Louis XV adaptation of the Napoleon III period. The piece is adorned with flowing motifs inspired by nature, such as the curled leaves, scalloped shell, and deep carvings seen on the overdoor. A main principle of Napoleon III furnishings was to utilize every inch available, as noted by the gadrooned leaf and rinceaux that emanate from behind the center medallion, forming a sprawling border. The medallion features an amazing high relief carving of a floral bouquet surrounded by curled leaves with scrolled tendrils and raised, asymmetrical panels. At the top is a scalloped shell, which is mimicked by a pair of parted leaves set at an angle in each of the upper corners. All of the carvings are presented in giltwood, which pairs nicely with the cream colored background that is enveloped in a quarter round molding (also gilded). The entire grouping is presented as a raised carving, with a thin board behind it that has tas de sable (sandpit) pilasters topped with block finials flanking the overdoor. Unique to most other antique overdoors...Category
