Exceptional Gilded Bronze Firescreen, Period 1880
About the Item
This beautiful gilded bronze fire screen is a re-edition of a model presented at the 1900 World's Fair by the great specialist in fireplace accessories, Bouhon Frères. Taking up the curved lines of the Louis XV style, our fire screen is decorated with beautiful acanthus leaves and rocaille motifs. It is also decorated with espagnolettes in each corner, thus mixing styles, characteristic of the eclectic taste of the end of the century. Formerly the house of Clavier, then Bouhon et Cie until 1898, Bouhon Frères specializes in fireplaces and their accessories in bronze and wrought iron. Bouhon Frères was congratulated by the international jury at the 1900 Universal Exhibition for its "entirely new" screens and andirons. It received the gold medal, just as it had received it at the World Fair of 1897 in Brussels.
