George III Statuary and Sienna Marble Fireplace
About the Item
The breakfront shelf has mouldings decorated with bead and reel and egg and dart motifs, this above a Sienna marble frieze centred by an exquisitely carved tablet. The centre tablet depicts a woven basket of fruits, grape vines and foliage, all symbolic of autumn and harvest time. Three quarter rounded statuary marble columns, with Ionic capitals and socles on low plinths are attached to Sienna marble pilasters. Around the fireplace opening is a finely fluted marble frame, echoing the architrave mouldings.
This fireplace features the finest and richest coloured Sienna marble, along with masterfully carved statuary marble elements. Its beautifully proportioned and in excellent condition.
