Large Circular Cast Stone Garden Planter, Reims, France, C. 1960

About the Item

Whether used as a decorative garden ornament or a functional planter, this large circular garden planter from Reims, France, will enhance any outdoor landscape. Cast from reconstituted stone, circa 1960, the planter features an impressive size with a bowl of 41 inches in diameter. The stone has accumulated a wonderful green, gray, and black patina that dots the striking cream finish. Exquisite spiral fluting nestled between two quarter-round moldings embellishes the robust base, while the bowl’s rim showcases a delightful, twisted rope motif above arching transoms, supported by stately columns. This captivating cast stone garden planter will serve as a timeless addition to your outdoor space. The planter could also be used creatively as a courtyard fountain or even paired with a glass top and used as a foyer center table.

After the original 18th century garden vases, entitled Autumn, by Jean-Baptiste Pigalle, this pair of large cast garden vases are in the classic krater form. Each vase is supported by a thick rectangular plinth beneath a tapering neck adorned with geometric motifs and Vitruvian waves filled with flowers. These impressive garden vases will make a wonderful statement, inside or outdoors.
