Two 18th Century English Carved Limestone Urns
About the Item
A pair of 240-year-old late 18th century English carved limestone garden urns from Aske Hall, North Yorkshire UK dispersed as part of a three day auction sale in 1994. Aske Hall is an English Georgian country house that originates from as early as the 15th century. It’s gardens and parkland are attributed to Capability Brown, the UK’s most famous landscape designer of the 18th century. Incredibly detailed and of superb scale, these large antique limestone urns are beautifully carved in high relief with floral swags between pairs of masks. The socles are equally as detailed, taking the form of scrolling leaves upon square bases.
