About the Item
Oriental container for rice. Wood and metal. China, towards the beginning of the 20th century.
Chinese container for storing rice, made of carved and varnished reddish wood, with a flattened ovoid body and a flat lid, slightly raised towards the center. The shoulders are clearly differentiated by an edge enhanced by the application of a metal molding, similar to the one that outlines the foot. Under the shoulders, on both sides, two arc-shaped metal handles, with floral design fixings. The lid is decorated with a central wooden tondo carved in lowered relief, combining an exterior border of geometrized clouds with a double interior profile of mitered curves. In the center, a small flattened knob with a rosette at the base, matching the fixings of the handles. ·
