Cast Bronze Copper Flashed Patinated Renaissance Style Charger

About the Item

This charger made as an intentional remake of a famous object is fully embossed on the back as such and contains the maker's name. The charger contains many different scenes from antiquity but is centered with a scene from the life of Christ with the Virgin Mary all divided by arabesques and grotesques associated with the flowering of Renaissance art. Made in Italy as a souvenir to take back from grand tours this is in response to the growing interest in American collectors such as Frick ,Morgan and Carnegie to the glorious triumph of the Italian Renaissance. • Pair of Patinated and Polished Bronze Renaissance Revival Candelabra
    Located in Hudson, NY
This pair of candelabra made in France, circa 1880 are designed in the Renaissance Revival style. Well cast in a large number of separate parts and patinated and polished to create drama and decorative detail the pair is of a nice scale without being overly large. Cast as a central column raised on a pyramidal pierced base. The base is centered by grotesque masks and foliate sprays raised up on feet. The shaft leads up to four large branched arms also cast with corresponding foliate sprays issuing from more grotesques. The combination of color and casting create a lively play of light.
