Early 20th century lacquer box, Japanese. Late Meiji period. Eggshell ground with lustrous gilded chrysanthemums. Softly rounded corners. Accompanied by a note "Very easily damaged. Please handle very tenderly. Probably purchased by my great grandparents 1910, Barbara Nettsheim."
