Midcentury Formica and Ceramic Box by Einar Johansen & Søholm for Torben Ørskov
About the Item
High-quality desk cigarette or decorative box composed of a glazed ceramic lid with a globe in shallow relief, box-sides in solid rosewood upon af plate in black formica. The lid was designed by ceramist Einar Johansen and made at Søholm in Denmark for Torben Ørskov who made the box for the company AIU in Denmark circa 1965-69. The style of this box is reminiscent to boxes by Alfred Klitgaard and Maria Viktor. Please notice that the rosewood besides being applied over 50 years ago is East Indian and therefore dies not require Cites certificate for export. The box measures 11x11x4.3 cm.
