Antique Austrian Silver Tea Caddy, circa 1955

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Austrian 800 standard silver tea caddy; an addition to our silver teaware collection. This exceptional Austrian silver tea caddy has an oval shaped form. The incurved panelled surface of this silver tea caddy has a planished finish. The box is fitted with a hinged hallmarked cover accented with further incurved ornamentation, identical to that of the body. The cover is surmounted by the impressive and original carved painted wood ball style finial. The interior of the caddy features the original gilding. The hallmarks to the underside and the cover sleeve include: Maker's mark: FT (untraced) Assay mark: Toucan mark, W (Vienna, Austria) Silver quality/purity mark: 800, 4 [toucan mark] (.800, 800/1000) * This variation of the Toucan mark was used for Austrian silver between 1938-2001; this mark, in addition to the design and composition, determines the date of this piece as circa 1955. Condition This antique silver tea caddy is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. The Austrian hallmarks struck to the underside of the tea caddy and sleeve of the cover are all very clear.
