Antique French Ormolu and White Marble Louis XVI Clock

About the Item

A beautiful classical clock made in the style of Louis XVI by Samuel Marti. Stunning ormolu (finely gilded bronze) mounted on a marble base. It is decorated with an inset laurel swag, trailing acanthus and a classical motif to the sides. To the top is a handled urn with a floral finial. The dial is porcelain enamel on copper with pretty floral swag between the numbers and is complete with its original finely fretted hands and convex glass. The rear door is also glazed to allow the movement to be seen. The French movement is of high quality and is by Samuel Marti. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. We have a video of the clock, please ask and we will send you a link. Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration. The dial is also in excellent condition just very tiny nibbles next to the Brocot shaft above the twelve. Marble is also very good with nibbles to the edges and slight discolouration in places.
