French 19th Century Aesthetic Movement Chinoiserie Timepiece by Susse Frères

About the Item

A very fine bronze brown and gilt patina French 19th century timepiece in the oriental Chinese taste. In an Archaic style bell with molded relief dragons circling body, surmounted by a rooster. The dial in turquoise blue porcelain with Chinese symbolic numbers, gilded hands represented as a dragon. The pendulum with its original key and bell working. Signed Susse Frères Paris and Numbered 296 May have retailed by "L'Escalier de Cristal" The rooster in Chinese Symbolic represents protection against bad astral influences. He also scares the ghosts and demons and fieds at sunrise by his singing. A rooster also represents success and fame.
