George V Presentation Treasury Inkstand

About the Item

This expertly crafted George V Presentation inkstand was presented to Lionel de Rothschild to commemorate the centenary of the Alliance Assurance Company. The work was forged by renowned London silversmith Charles Comyns. The rectangular form features drop ring handles and the interior includes two silver-mounted glass inkwells. The graceful linear design of this inkstand reflects the refined aesthetic of Charles Comyns. The inkstand features an inscription stating, "Presented to Lionel de Rothschild Director of the Alliance Assurance Company on the occasion of its centenary 1824-1924."     An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V English sterling silver gallery inkstand; an addition to our ornamental office silverware collection This exceptional antique George V sterling silver gallery inkstand has a rectangular form. This inkstand is fitted with a hallmarked gallery, embellished with impressive panels of pierced angular diaper pattern decoration. The body of the sterling silver inkstand is ornamented with a gadroon decorated border to the rim. The internal frame of the Stand is divided into different sized compartments by pierced decorated dividers reflecting the same design to that of the body. The original hallmarked base has a sliding action which allows it to be removed for cleaning purposes. This antique sterling silver inkstand is supported by four impressive claw and ball feet. The two smaller internal compartments retain the original square glass ink bottles with chamfered edges. The ink bottles retain the original plain hallmarked silver cylindrical mounts fitted with hinged hallmarked covers.
