'Head of a Woman' Large Sculpture after Carl Nesjar for Picasso
About the Item
A rare piece to come up for sale.
It appears to be a maquette done by Carl Nesjar for Picasso.
The photo example shown is of another one from the book "The sculpture of Picasso, Museum of Modern Art, New York, 1967"
Picasso hired Carl Nesjar to make some of his sculptures in maquette form.
For example, like the two shown in the photo here with Picasso for the Chicago Civic Center, from the book "Portrait of Picasso, Museum of Modern Art New York, 1971"
And the other photo in Picasso's studio with a "Head of a Woman" maquette next to one of the Civic Center maquette's.
As one can see from the photo's, it appears that Carl made a few examples of these sculptures.
Unfortunately this one does not have a provenance, only that it was found in Los Angeles.
It's made of welded sheet steel showing wear and patina consistent with age.
There's no damage or repairs, original fine condition.
Presents well.
It's a great statement piece for a home or add to a collection of modern art...
