Aged Lioness Antique Sculpture in Terracotta

About the Item

Hand-crafted over a century ago, this statue is a beautiful object for an interior. Delicate details across the mane, face and teeth have been preserved throughout the years, the red terracotta lightly weathered from age, with historic repairs to the paws and tail. As the Queen of Beasts, a lioness statue is an impressive artwork piece. This sculpture is considered a lioness rather than a lion due to its short mane on the neck beneath the face, rather than a thick and luscious mane completely surrounding the head like it would a lion.

The depiction of the lyre and quiver of arrows to the front is suggestive of Erato, one of the 9 Muses...

Dante Dante, or Dantes as the bust reads, was an Italian writer and very important figure in the Renaissance.
