About the Item

The Art Deco ceramic sculpture by Michel Decoux, signed at the base "Decoux", known for creating exquisite sculptures, particularly of animals. The piece depicts two Greyhound dogs in their graceful standing and sitting positions, in enameled ceramic showcasing a mosaic-like (craquelure),cubism finish with distinct colors in gold, black and dark grey, emphasizing the texture visually. Signed, numbered, and located in underglaze ink at the bottom of the base "France - 195 - Fontinelle Edition", with this piece being the 195th in the series. Michel Decoux Michel Decoux (1837-1924) Belgian but worked mainly in France. He was regarded as an animal sculptor though he occasionally sculpted people. He was best known for making groups of hunting scenes, and specialized in wild animals (elephants, panthers, etc.). Influenced by cubism and part of the art deco movement
