Glass Blue Butterfly Sculpture Lalique France, 1980

About the Item

Glass Blue Butterfly Sculpture Lalique France, 1980 Very beautiful glass butterfly marked with Lalique france René Lalique became synonymous with French Art Nouveau decorative arts. Born in 1860, René Lalique began designing fine jewelry in Paris in 1881. From about 1883, Lalique conducted increasingly innovative experiments with glass. is formed around the model. Then the wax is melted and the molten glass is poured into the mold. Lalique glass was made this way until about 1905 when the factory was redesigned for increased production. As such, the individual uniqueness of each example of Lalique glass came to an end with the end of the one-off molding technique around wax models. The success of this venture resulted in the opening of his own glass factory in Combs-la-Ville in 1909. During the Art Nouveau period, Lalique was known for a wide variety of objects, including perfume bottles, vases, inkwells, decorative boxes and bookends. Lalique glass is lead-based, blown or pressed into shape. Favorite motifs during the Art Nouveau period were dancing nymphs, fish, dragonflies and foliage. Characteristic is that the glass is crystal in combination with acid-etched relief. In addition to vases, clocks, car mascots, glassware and bottles, many other utensils were produced. Although not well known, Lalique also experimented with bronze and other materials.
