Bronze sculpture with shaded brown patina representing a young woman playing the mandolin. Beautiful early edition proof, titled in a cartouche "Pastorale Watteau par Adrien Gaudez ". Base in Levanto marble. Bibliography : Pierre Kjelberg, les bronzes du XIXe siècle, les Editions de l'Amateur, Paris 1989, pages 346 to 348 Period : 1890 Origin : France, Paris Materials : Bronze, Levanto marble Etienne Adrien GAUDEZ (1845 – 1902) Sculptor, born in Lyon on February 9, 1845, died in Neuilly on January 23, 1922. Entered the Beaux-Arts in 1862, a student of Jouffroy, he began at the Salon in 1864 and obtained a third class medal and a first class in 1881. Author of the monument of Florian in Alais and the monument of the Children of Voges who died for the Homeland, in Remiremont. He was a prisoner of war in Magdeburg (Germany) during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, and we owe him the monument in memory of the French prisoners of this city.
