Shiva Statue Nataraja Dancing Bronze Sculpture

About the Item

Shiva is one of the main gods of Hinduism. In Shivism, he is considered to the believers as the most important manifestation of the Supreme. As part of the "Houtuistic Trinity" (Trimurti) with the three aspects of the Divine, that is, with Brahma, who is considered the Creator, and Vishnu, the keeper, Shiva embodies the principle of destruction. Outside this Trinity, he embodies creation and new beginning as well as preservation and destruction. This Shiva comes with a nice original patina and a powerful expression on his face. We date the sculpture to the middle to end of the 19th century.

Shiva dances ecstatically, facing the viewer with his body twisted, his long locks of hair streaming out around him, his four arms in action, with one leg raised, the other stomping on the dwarf demon Apasmara, who represents spiritual ignorance. In one hand he holds a damaru, or ritual drum...
