French Ormolu Bronze Urns by Maxime Secrétant

About the Item

Our pair of exceptional ormolu bronze urns are attributed to French designer, Maxime Secretant, circa 1890s. They feature spiral-gadrooned necks flanked by female masks linked by suspended floral swags and bodies cast in relief with putti in Bacchanalian settings, with waisted socle and foliate-cast foot. Each carries the stamped monogram 'MS' on undersides for the designer. They were drilled for use at table lamps and certainly could be modified today for such use. Their finials screw into the urns. Maxime Secrétant opened his Paris workshop at 74, rue Amelot in the fourth quarter of the nineteenth century. He designed and produced exceptional furniture in the 18th century style, and also worked with his half-brother, Léon Duval, who had been an apprentice to the revered ebeniste, Gervais Durand.
