Set of Three 1966 Pompadour Vases by Finnish Designer Nanny Still for Riihimäen

About the Item

This is a Finnish set of two pieces by Nanny Still named Pompadour. It comes in the rather rare color olive green. The two models, 1945 and 1405, of the Pompadour series are designed in an elegant shape. This particular model 1405 has a folded, smooth rounded edge and a very curved baluster shaped body. Designed 1966 for Riihimäen. The dimensions: H 22 cm, 8.7 in Ø 6.5 cm, 2.6 in H 22 cm, 8.7 in Ø 6.5 cm, 2.6 in H 19.5 cm, 7.7 in Ø 10 cm, 3.9 in ____________________ Nanny Elisabet Still, after marriage Still-McKinney, was a Finnish designer and born 1926 in the capital Helsinki. After studying at the Art Industrial Academy in Helsinki 1945–1949, she continued with studies abroad. In 1959 she settled permanently in Brussels. She started her career at Riihimäki glass factory as a designer. Immediately she attracted attention with new colors and livelier shapes. She also designed utility objects and jewelry in glass, as well as in metal and wood for other companies in Finland and abroad. In 1972 she was awarded the 1972 Pro Finlandia Medal and is represented in the Museum of Modern Art's collections. She passed away in Brussels 2009 in the age of 83.
