Villeroy & Boch Neon Color-block Lucite Vase, set of 2, 1990s
About the Item
Villeroy & Boch produced that stunning pair of vases in the 1990s. This playful design is modern with an incredible color combination. Each vase has a multilayer sandwich shape of Acrylic, Lucite, or Plexiglass in white, yellow, orange, neon red, and pink tones. They are flat and, at the same time, have a funny rounded shape. Those vases are difficult to find on the market because, for an unknown reason, Villeroy & Boch produced only a small quantity of them and removed them from the shelves soon after they launched the series.
The vases are in good condition. Please note, however, a tiny chip at the collar of the tall vase. Check the close-up.
Measurements:
Tall one: 4.32 in wide (11 cm) x 2 in deep (5 cm) x 13 in high (33 cm).
Lower one: 10.82 in wide (27.5 cm) x 2 in deep (5 cm) x 7.07 in high (18 cm).
(The measurements in the item details are for the lower one alone.)
Note: The company began in the tiny Lorraine village of Audun le Tiche, France, where the iron master François Boch set up a pottery company with his three sons in 1748. In 1766, Boch Company was licensed to build a ceramics kiln near Septfontaines, Luxembourg, where it operated a porcelain factory. In 1785, Nicolas Villeroy became the sole owner of the faience factory at Wallerfangen. In 1812, Jean-François Boch began kiln construction at the nearby town of Mettlach, Saarland. In 1824, Boch commenced transfer printing on porcelain from engraved copper plates. On 14 April 1836, the Jean François Boch company merged with its competitor, Nicolas Villeroy, and became Villeroy & Boch. The company is operating today in two divisions: tableware and bathroom wellness.
