1939 Reed and Barton Shreve Crump Low Sterling Silver Cocktail Shaker 151g

About the Item

Antique 1939 Reed & Barton sterling silver solo cocktail shaker, sold by Shreve, Crump, & Low Company, commemorating the 100th anniversary of Charles Goodyear’s successful vulcanization of rubber in 1839 and the ACS (American Chemical Society) of Boston. Charles Goodyear (December 29, 1800 – July 1, 1860) was an American self-taught chemist and manufacturing engineer who developed vulcanized rubber, for which he received patent number 3633 from the United States Patent Office on June 15, 1844. Goodyear is credited with inventing the chemical process to create and manufacture pliable, waterproof, moldable rubber. Goodyear's discovery of the vulcanization process followed five years of searching for a more stable rubber and stumbling upon the effectiveness of heating after Thomas Hancock. His discovery initiated decades of successful rubber manufacturing in the Lower Naugatuck Valley in Connecticut, as rubber was adopted to multiple applications, including footwear and tires. The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company is named after (though not founded by) him. " Measures: 4” x 3.25” x 5.375” (Width x Depth x Height) / 151 g.

"Antique 1936 Reed and Barton number X610 sterling silver 925 tea pot, creamer and sugar bowl set, trimmed with bands of swirling leaves, and engraved with the initials CMC. “The Reed & Barton story began in 1824, when Isaac Babbitt created a new metal alloy - ""Britannia metal"" - in his Taunton, Massachusetts pewter shop. Babbitt joined forces with craftsmen Henry G. Reed and Charles E. Barton to produce this innovative, higher quality pewter ware. When Babbitt encountered financial difficulties, Reed & Barton offered to take control and began manufacturing products under their own names. The fledgling company's goods reflected uncompromising standards of excellence, starting with its initial silverplate products and extending to the exquisite sterling silver creations that resulted from the silver discoveries of the late 1800s. The company has remained privately owned by the family of Henry Reed. Besides the flatware for which it is renowned, Reed & Barton operates other brands as well: Reed & Barton Handcrafted Chests, the world's largest manufacturer of handmade chests, cigar humidors, pen chests...
