Victorian Pearl Lusterware Ewer or Pitcher with Green Trim and Blue Flowers
About the Item
This rare Victorian opalescent lusterware ewer boasts a pearly iridescent base colour and blue-green trim on the mouth, handle, and base. It is decorated with a bouquet of light blue flowers and light olive-green stems, leaves, and buds. The blue-green iridescent trim and handle shimmer with colour and a metallic glow, making this a stunning display piece, vase, or serve ware for that special low-lit dinner. In Victorian times, before electricity, lusterware would be set on mirrors to reflect the moving light of candles and oil lamps creating a dazzling and opulent effect.
This unique ewer exudes elegance with a base that tapers in and takes the form of a tall plum vase before flaring out at the mouth. The sloping mouth and segmented rounded handle are molded with detail, typical of ewers of this period. The ewer is 11.5 inches high and 6.5 inches at the widest point.
The base is inset and unglazed but is not marked. The foot has some light wear and there is a small chip in the underside of the lip and one on the foot. Otherwise, it is in fine antique condition.
