Augarten Vienna Lidded Oil Pot Candy Box Baroque Style Chinese Decor Du Paquier
About the Item
We invite you here to look at a splendid as well as rarest Augarten Vienna Porcelain item.
It is a two-handled as well as lidded oil pot or candy box, made in Baroque style, strongly influenced by Asian (Chinese) art. Its wall made of white porcelain is abundantly decorated with finest patterns made in the technique of the relief, consisting of:
-- flowers' blossoms with leaves
-- abstract ornaments of architectural shape.
This pot was once created circa 1725 in Vienna Porcelain Manufactory, directed by Claudius Innocentius du Paquier (1679 - 1751) who had established the Viennese Porcelain Manufactory in year 1718 so that Viennese Manufactory is - together with Meissen Manufactory - one of the two eldest European porcelain manufactories. Imperial Vienna Porcelain Manufactory was closed in year 1864 due to financial difficulties / Viennese porcelain production was re-established in Viennese Augarten Castle in year 1923:
Augarten Manufactory is still producing this pot (named 'Oglio-Topf'), production number is 800107 5039, but please note that this pot we're presenting here is an elder one - it was made around the year 1930 since there is the old Augarten mark visible at pot's reverse side. Secondly, the pot here is bigger than the items made in actual production which measure diameter only of 14.5 cm (= 5.70 inches).

FORM SCHUBERT described by Augarten manufactory: The Classic “SCHUBERT” shape dates back to the Biedermeier era - a period in the 19th century that captured the true spirit of the 'Viennese' style of the time. Floral patterns which had a particularly elegant and delicate look nestled on the round shape were typical of the Biedermeier era. - Especially the decoration “Maria Theresia” - once designed for the hunting lodge of Empress Maria Theresia - is of superb & elegant appearance. The deep green of glaze / varnish - nowadays a very special feature of manufactory - had been an exciting innovation during Maria Theresia's reign.
