About the Item
Artist / Sculptor and later Professor Jack L. Squier (1927-2015) Picasso style ceramic figure for Howat Kilns, Mexico 1950s, signed inside with "S" in a circle. Hand Painted and glazed in black & white, female with extended neck and cubist face, breasts and hands. In find condition, no issues, rare find. Possibly distributed by Raymor.
Jack L. Squier, Professor Squier, a distinguished sculptor, taught sculpture at Cornell University for 47 years to the University's architecture and art students. Those very students, under the guidance of Professor Squier, created the sculptures located now at the University's "Plantations". Additionally, the Professor, with student, Roberto Einaudi, established Cornell's architecture and art program in Rome, Italy, which continues to this day.
Professor Squier, following military service in the U.S. Naval Air Corps, received his B.S. degree from Indiana University in 1950 and his Masters in Fine Arts degree from Cornell in 1952.
His sculptures as well as his participation embraced more than 50 group exhibitions in major municipal and university museums in the United States, Europe and South America to include ten or more personalized and singular exhibitions in New York City and Los Angeles. His public collections currently can be found at: Whitney Museum of American Art, New York City, St. Lawrence University Museum, New York, Museum of Modern Art, New York City, Ithaca College, Ithaca, New York, Houston Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas, Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, Everson Museum, Syracuse, New York, S.U.N.Y., Potsdam Gallery, Potsdam, New York, Stanford University Museum, California, Lipman Foundation, New York City, Instituto De Contemperano, Lima, Peru, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC, Fogg Museum of Art, Harvard University, Boston, Massachusetts, Castellani Museum, Niagara University, Niagara, New York.
