18th Century English Regency Silver Wine Funnel by Silversmith Edward Farrell

About the Item

An interesting silver wine funnel, or strainer, made in Georgian England in the late 18th century and bearing the hallmark 'EF', thought to be Edward Farrell, a master silversmith working in London during the Regency period. Traditional in shape, with its original side-clip still in place, this elegant piece of silverware has a beaded rim and star- shaped pierced strainer in its bowl. This was a practical utensil, which was employed to filter wine before it was consumed, before transferring it from the bottle to a decanter. The slight curve at the end of the spout causes the wine to flow slowly down the side of the bottle, thus improving aeration. The perfect gift for any discerning wine lover.
