Antique Victorian Glass and Sterling Silver Mounted Communion Wine Jug

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian glass and English sterling silver mounted communion wine jug; an addition to our wine and drink related silverware collection This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver and glass wine jug has a circular, rounded bulbous form. The cylindrical neck of this antique jug is fitted with an impressive platin hallmarked sterling silver mount ornamented with a scalloped border to the lower portion. The mount retains the original hinged, hallmarked domed cover surmounted with an impressive three-dimensional cross patoncé shaped finial. This antique Victorian claret jug is fitted with an impressive handle with scrolling trifurcating terminals, ornamented with embossed trefoil leaf shaped sockets. The plain glass body of the jug is encompassed with a further mount to the lower portion of the handle, embellished with the engraved inscription 'Glory be to God on High'. This central mount is further ornamented with engraved foliate decoration, in addition to a matte texture to the background. The silver and glass body surmounts a hallmarked plain circular domed, spreading foot accented with gilding to the underside; the gilding indicates the high quality of the piece. This exceptional jug was crafted by the London silversmiths Sidney Blunt & Frederick Dendy Wray of Blunt, Wray & Co. Such large examples of ecclesiastical jugs/ewers are rare to the market. Condition This antique communion jug is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The engraved decoration is all very crisp. The glass body is in perfect condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the mount and underside of the base, in addition to part hallmarks to the cover are all very clear; the hallmarks are deeply struck due to the exceptional gauge of silver.     An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver claret jug, influenced by the Aesthetic Movement; an addition to our diverse silverware collection. This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver claret jug has a circular rounded form onto a circular plateaued foot. The upper portion of the jug is encompassed with bands of bright cut engraved evolute scroll, vertical pale and oval motifs accented with a simplified leaf garland and delicate scrolling pattern to the rim, all influenced by the Aesthetic Movement. The lower portion of the body is embellished with large fan designs segmented with tri-lobed motifs; each large module incorporates a horizontal pale, matte pattern. The Victorian silver claret jug is fitted with a hinged hallmarked cover ornamented with a bright cut engraved leaf wreath design encompassing a contemporary crest of a stag's head erased. The cover is surmounted with a cast and applied leaf decorated thumbpiece, reflecting the shape of the fan designs to the body. This impressive jug is fitted with an exceptional embossed elongated S scroll handle featuring a bi-lobed ribbed formation and embellished with bright cut engraved oval motifs to either side, in addition to a scalloped, scrolling lower terminal. Either side of the lip is ornamented with a bright cut engraved simplified leaf design, in addition to a plain applied moulded border to the rim. The plateaued foot is embellished with further bright cut engraved garland designs, reflecting the ornamentation of the body and cover. The interior surface of the cover retains the original gilding. The underside of the foot bears the retailer's mark 'J. Mayer, Silversmith, Liverpool'. Condition This antique Victorian silver claret jug is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. The bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp. The jug has been professionally cleaned and is ready for use. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the base and part hallmarks to the cover are very clear.     An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver goblet; an addition to our collection of wine and drinks related silverware This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver goblet has a circular bell shaped form onto a knopped stem and circular spreading foot. The body of this 1870s silver goblet is embellished with bright cut engraved foliate festoons accented with pensile leaf drops; these vertical designs form four cartouches. The cartouche to one side bears a bright cut engraved fruit design; the further three remain vacant. The knopped stem is encircled with a plain moulded border to the centre. The foot is ornamented with further bright cut engraved overlapping arch designs, accented with an applied bead decorated border to the rim. Condition This antique 1870s silver goblet is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The goblet has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp and the applied ornamentation is very sharp.
