Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Cat Condiment Set

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive, rare antique Victorian English cast sterling silver three piece condiment set in the form of cats; an addition to our silver cruets/condiments collection. This exceptional and rare antique Victorian English cast sterling silver condiment set consists of a mustard pot and a pair of peppers. The components of this exceptional set have been realistically modelled in the form of cats. Each piece is ornamented with details reproducing the feline's fur and anatomical features, in addition to a plain ribbon bow design to each neck. The fine mustard pot is fitted the original hallmarked hinged cover and retains the original gilding to the interior. Each of the silver cat pepperettes retains the original, hallmarked push fit cover/head ornamented to the upper portion with pierced 'pepper' holes. The underside of each piece bears a 'lozenge mark' which certifies the patent of this piece on 20th August 1875 with the UK Patent Office. This unusual condiment set is supplied with an associate Birmingham sterling silver spoon, crafted by Charles Wilkes in 1910. This exceptional and rare sterling silver cat condiment set the finest quality of its type you could hope to acquire. Condition This antique rare sterling silver cat condiment set is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in an exceptional condition. The cast decoration is all very sharp. Full hallmarks to the surface of each piece and part hallmarks to the underside and covers are very clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these examples of antique novelty silver. The salt and pepper pot have a rounded cylindrical form, with a tapering upper portion to the pepper. The sterling silver upper portion of each piece is plain and unembellished.
