Georg Jensen Sterling Silver Hot Water Kettle 251

About the Item

A significant creation from Georg Jensen, this sterling silver hot water kettle or tea machine, bears the distinctive design #251 by Johan Rohde dating back to 1920. The sizable oval vessel features hand-hammered detailing on both the pot and spout. Notably, the atypical spout boasts a beveled top, while the pot showcases Johan Rhode’s signature design—a series of four silver beads arranged in a square. The ornamental oval lid follows a crown design, characterized by 14 gracefully curved branches attached to a silver bead, complemented by a hand-chased floral motif and an oxidized base. The knob, crafted from ebony, centers a silver circular design for aesthetic appeal. The generously sized ebony handle, adorned with a linear design, connects to two silver mounts embellished with bead and scroll floral patterns. The pot is detachable, secured to the base by two meticulously crafted circular pins. The substantial base, featuring an abundance of scroll designs and intricate hand chasing, is supported by a large ebony wood platform. The removable round burner mirrors the bead design found on the pot, with a detachable top for easy filling with lamp oil. Included in the design is a rod for adjusting the wick and another for lifting the lid to access the wick. Among the array of hot water kettles in our possession, this stands out as notably the finest to date. Noteworthy is the fact that this piece is the handiwork of Karen B. Poulsen, who created it as her Journeyman’s piece upon completing her apprenticeship to become a silversmith at Georg Jensen. Karen B. Poulsen holds the distinction of being one of the pioneering female silversmiths educated at Georg Jensen. Measurements: H 13″ (33cm) x 10″ (26cm).
