George III Cellarette Attributed to Gillows of London and Lancaster

Nicholas Wells Antiques are delighted to offer this exceptional mahogany cellarette is constructed in an oval form with a superb hinged lid, decorated with tapering flutes and edged with a reeded border and inset carved patrae to the top of the four legs. The body is supported on four tapered reeded legs upon brass casters. The body of the cabinet is decorated with panels of flame mahogany and brass ringed handles incorporated in lions masks to each end of the cellarette. The cabinet is lead-lined and incorporates a locking drawer and lid. England, circa 1810 Size: 33 inches (84cm) high; 18 inches (46cm) wide; 34 inches (86.5cm) deep Gillows were making furniture from 1730. Synonymous with the use of the best quality materials, superb design and craftsmanship, they boasted the largest stock of furniture outside of London. The Lancaster based company who also uniquely opened workshops in London during the 1760s, continued to expand into the 19th century whereupon they became Waring and Gillow.
