Whimsical Carousel Pig Carnival Ride Mexican Attrib Higareda Brothers

About the Item

A rare and whimsical vintage Mexican carnival amusement ride carousel pig attributed to the Higareda workshop. This ultra charming carousel pig carving was made in a smaller scale for a traveling carnival with a carousel, making it the ideal scale for most interiors. Hand-crafted in Mexico in the mid-20th century, almost certainly by the Higareda Brothers studios in Guadalajara, exceptionally executed sculptural form, the forward-facing jumper menagerie animal features rich carving, detail, and color throughout. Hand carved and painted solid wood, depicted in motion jumping, with an ear of corn clenched in his mouth full of teeth, legs outstretched, adorned with integral polychrome decorated saddle and blanket wooden seat. Includes a custom made contemporary display stand. Dimensions: (approx) Overall: 36.5" Tall, 37.5" Wide, 13.5" Deep Pig: 24" High, 36" Wide, 10" Deep Condition: A wonderful example of carnival folk art, museum quality, the ride is in great condition, with beautifully aged and worn warm rich dark patina over the whole. Strong, sturdy, stable, solid wood construction. Attractive appearance, retaining antique character and rustic charm throughout, including scattered nicks, scuffs, scratches, and minor paint rubbing loss, typical wear consistent with age and indicative of use as a merry-go-round ride. Ideal size and proportions for interior display, the whimsy flying pig carousel horse ride fashioned as a decorative sculpture / statue, is sure to add fantastical elegance, rustic warmth, and playful curious interest to any space!
