Vintage Spanish Colonial Style Articulated Large Virgin Mary Santos Sculpture

About the Item

This absolutely stunning vintage Spanish Colonial style articulated santos sculpture (bulto) stands almost 4' tall and was sculpted out of lightweight wood covered in papier-mache, then painted in the late 20th century in the Philipppines. This figure is most likely a Virgin Mary. Note her beautiful embedded blue glass eyes and the delicate positioning of her hands. Her torso is painted a muted blue green. Her arms and legs move freely. The sculpture itself measures 45.5 inches tall while the base adds another 1" of height. In good stable condition. She is structurally sound and mounted on a wood and metal base. A beautiful decorative item made in the tradition of antique examples From the collection of a Boulder, Colorado interior designer who collected many antique pieces, largely from France. This piece was displayed for many years as a decorative piece in an interior design studio. More photos available upon request. In as found condition. The surface is rough and there are splits and many signs of age, but the figure is sound and sturdy. The modern base is made of wood with a metal pole and stands stable on a flat surface. More photos available upon request.
