Garbo R ceiling light by Mariyo Yagi and Studio Simon for Sirrah 1973
About the Item
This light was designed by Mariyo Yagi in 1976 and produced by the Italian publisher Sirrah. This project is the fruit of theoretical research into the Japanese word "Nawa", which translates as "Rope", but also refers to the spiritual link connecting spirits.
This light has not been created alone, drawing on her experience with Isamu Noguchi. It was presented by Tobias Scarpa to Dino Gavina, founder of Studio Simon, who gave the ceiling lamp its name, Garbo, in homage to the actress Greta Garbo, referring to her singular beauty.
This light is no longer produced.
The ceiling fixture is composed of a white metal base on which 5 screw-in bulbs are aligned. Fabric bangs encircle the base. This atypical luminaire diffuses a soft light.
In very good condition, wear consistent with age and use.
