Couple of 1970s Murano Glass and Chromed Metal Appliques
About the Item
This is a rare pair of anonymous yet very fascinating wall sconces from the 1970s. Crafted in chromed metal and corrugated Murano glass, each lamp holds three transparent glass discs with included bubbles. The light effect is very peculiar, thanks to the metal sheet serving as a screen and the light diffused by the three glass elements.
They have a marked mechanical appearance, even an essentiality, as they are defined by a simple sheet of metal bent to work as a screen. But the additional Murano glass discs add an unexpected twist and elevate the simple piece of metal to the role of frame for a mesmerizing sculpture. The bubble-inlayed Murano discs react to light by brightening up and emitting a very strong light, and at the same time reveal all their beauty to the eye of the beholder.
The lamps have been professionally rewired and the light bulbs changed. They are faithful to the original appearance and in full working order.
