George II carved giltwood mirror

About the Item

George II carved giltwood mirror with a broken swan-neck pediment centered by a cartouche, the frieze with egg and dart moulding. The original mirror plate with some foxing to the bottom, within a panelled and sanded surround, the apron with carved scrolling ears, foliage and centered by a scallop shell. English, circa 1730 This George II mirror is of good proportions and design with a bold swan neck pediment to the top. The mirror plate as you can see from the photographs is foxed, these are marks where the original silver has come away from the back of the glass, you will note two patches to the bottom and other flecks across the mirror, these are typical with original mirror plates and to our mind add character to the mirror. The gilding to the carved wood is original, however it is age toned and now matt in appearance.
