JINGASA - ICHIMON-GASA EDO Period 19th Century Samurai Helmet Japan

About the Item

JINGASA - ICHIMON-GASA EDO Period 19th Century Jingasa, flat-shaped Samurai headdress made of wood, the exterior covered with black lacquer depicting a brown kamon, a Japanese heraldic badge. The end of the helmet also lacquered brown, the interior in red. In very good condition for the age, a few small chips at the ends, no breakage. The Zabuton, a protective cushion for the head and also the chin guard, called ago-himo is present. Diameter: 33cm, Height: 5 cm Provenance: The Jingasas on sale belonged to a private collection of the directors of Bapty & Co, Mark & ​​Peter Dineley, recognized as the largest suppliers of original weapons and armour for use in theatre and cinema.
