Silver Tie Bar with Horned Figure Detail of Bone

About the Item

Silver 950 Japanese tie bar with hand painted bone devil Hannya Head. Two chains from the intricately etched silver bar hold the classic Hannya head. Certainly a conversation starter, also a wonderful decorative piece for the vanity or dresser. Can also be an interesting and creative hair piece. The hannya (??) mask is a mask used in Japanese Noh theater, representing a jealous female demon. It is characterized by two sharp bull-like horns, metallic eyes, and a leering mouth. It is not sterling. Actually better, 950 silver. Softer.

Homann's 1715 map of Africa, augmented to include important cartographic developments as recorded by Guillaume Delisle and D'Anville. The map presents a fairly accurate picture without most of the fictitious lakes and rivers of previous cartography, focusing on the known coastal regions of the continent, leaving the interior blank or marked Terra Incognito. Egypt, Nubia and Abyssinia are shown as distinct entities, Lake Nyasa is shown as Lac Marawi, and the Congo is located. The Dutch settlements of Castell Batov and Stellenbosch are shown at the Cape. Shows towns, rivers, mountains, lakes, etc. Detailed map of the region. Source unknown, to be determined. Artists and Engravers: Rigobert Bonne (1727-1795 ) was one of the most important cartographers of the late 18th century.
