Sculptural 18th Century Italian Processional Finial Mounted on Malachite

About the Item

18th century Italian gilded and hand-painted processional finial with baroque pearls and mounted on malachite. The piece was originally part of a processional pole from a historical church in Italy. A eucharist is painted on one side and Mary is painted on the other side. The malachite and baroque pearls bring out the original colors of the piece. The piece was put together by Jean O'Reilly Barlow, the artist and creative director of Interi. The date of manufacture reflects when she created the piece and the period shows that the Italian processional finial is originally 18th century. The Italian artifact has been transformed with the organic elements to create a sculptural work of old and new. Through the preservation of the ecclesiastical artifact, it still carries historical prominence while being transformed into a contemporary, work of art
