Mr Shelby - A Hat/Coat Stand

About the Item

The concept doodle for this piece remains roughly etched on the walls of our first factory. I came up with the design whilst on the phone to a client discussion his finely curated hat collection. Following a few iterations, we arrived at what we believe is the finest place to perch your peaks. In a somewhat bizarre circle of life, this piece closely resembles its ancestor, a tree. With a firm base, thick stem and protruding branches we allowed the design language of nature to influence our hat/coat/bag stand. The inlay work and capping are solid brass. The base, for structural purposes is manufactured from steel and sprayed gold. I have loved walking into the homes of many clients and witnessing these firsthand, adorned with often more hats than stand, a clear sign to me that our furniture is suitable to endure the pace of life. A dream I have for these would be to showcase a forest of these trees in all different shapes and sizes. Some towering heights and others in the sapling stage. A marvelous juxtaposition of the work of God, man and nature.

The game of chess is estimated to be some 1500 years old. It is hard to imagine all the variations of pieces and boards created during that period. I am exceptionally proud of our interpretation of the battlefield and its soldiers! In this edition, Cherry and Maple softly contrast one another. We are able to offer numours timber combinations as well as the potential of brass/copper accent work. This means that although the design is rigid, one is able to tailor an aesthetic which is appealing to your taste. Each piece is solid wood and expertly hand-turned by artisan. They are then carefully finished to ensure a congruent appearance. The legs were inspired by my friend and role-model Jory...
