Vintage Mid-Century Moroccan Berber Transitional Black Wool Rug by Rug & Kilim

About the Item

Originating from Morocco in 1950, this vintage mid-century Moroccan Berber rug employs a distinguished transitional approach to matriarchal and patriarchal symbolism in its field design. Hand knotted in high quality wool pile, the bold black and golden-yellow lozenge diamond pattern, representing femininity, floats uniquely over an asymmetric patchwork of vibrant red, green, yellow, blue, purple, orange, and white abash hues both surrounding and within its pattern. Accenting this female pattern are smaller, but finely woven ladder, snake, and grain symbols of masculinity, indicating this piece as a select number of Berber rugs representing the union of a woman and a man in a unique interpretation.
