19th Century Antique Lori Rug Runner
About the Item
Lori – West Persia
This is an excellent antique Persian Lori made with artistic mastery. It features an all-over pattern of colourful flowers intertwined in a dark beige shade throughout its central field. It is surrounded by three beautiful rust, ivory, and beige borders. The carpet is clean and ready for use.
Ancient Persian Lori (or Luri) carpets were woven by the Lurs ethnic group around the Zagros Mountains in western Persia. Lori rugs are rare and have a rich history in the oriental rug tradition.
These Persian rugs represent the beautiful art of this nomadic group. They have a huge design repertoire, such as animal motifs and geometric figures, and were woven with rich colour combinations—mainly red, blue, green, and yellow. These vibrant colours and tones give the viewer a unique sensation.
Lori artists only use exceptional quality wool that usually comes from their flocks that are fed on healthy water and pasture. High-quality wool results in long-lasting rugs. Each thread is capable of clearly absorbing and retaining the natural dyes that will be used in the carpet, keeping the colours vibrant throughout its useful life. This type of detailed care throughout the process ensures that Lori rugs are exquisite, original and of the highest quality.
The creative genius of Lori's artists features floral, animal, and elaborate geometric designs that reflect her world. These motifs often set them apart from the designs and styles of many other Persian rugs. Because of their unique artistry, vivid yet minimalist designs, and the extreme care given to the entire weaving process from start to finish, ancient Lori rugs have been known as some of the most exceptional rugs of the nomadic Persian peoples.
